After what felt like a never-ending storm here in Portugal (and my nervous system clinging on for dear life), the SUN finally came out: and I swear I turned into a new woman overnight! Turns out, I just needed the right energy to come out of my winter season.
And so does your brand.
Except we have this tendency of mistaking *seasonal slumps* for full-blown identity crisis. We assume our brand isn't working anymore or that we're doing something wrong, and that we've lost all our creativity.
When, in reality… we’re just tired.
Overstimulated.
Running on outdated systems.
Here's the thing about being a perfectionist, eldest-daughter, type-A, colour-coded-planner type: I LIVE for a reset moment.
January. September. A fresh Notion dashboard. A new notebook. And if you're anything like me, you love this illusion of control, even though life always has its way of testing our perfectly curated plans.
And by the time March rolls around, the goals you set in January aren't always matching up with your real daily capacity. So you start slipping into your own head:
"I should be further along."
"Why does my brand feel boring all of a sudden?"
"Why does my brain go blank every time I sit down to create content?"
Sometimes, though, your brand hasn't failed you. It's just been living in winter.
And instead of forcing output, comparing yourself to everyone else, or buying another course or template... what you actually need is to find the fun and excitement in it again. That's what this spring-cleaning guide is for.
First, you have to be 100% honest with yourself about how you're showing up right now. Carve out some time, without your phone or ChatGPT, and ask yourself: "where do things feel harder than they should?"
These are signs that your branding system is working *against* you rather than FOR you.
Branding should exist as a system to support your visibility, to bring your positioning and your marketing together. If it's causing decision fatigue, slowing you down, or making you avoid showing up altogether, that's an opportunity to make the system better.
But flip that coin over too: not everything is broken!
Think about what's already working: What do people compliment you on? What content feels easier to create? What visuals are you proud of? What offers feel most aligned?
Understanding what's already supporting you helps you build from a place of confidence before you sign up for yet another course or buy another template.
Now that you've spotted where the friction is, it's time to fix it from the inside out, starting with the backend. If the places where you implement your brand feel chaotic, it's no wonder you avoid creating altogether.
A few places to look:
The goal is simple: reduce resistance at the source.
When was the last time you timed yourself creating one post? When was the last time you looked at your Instagram grid the way a new follower would?
If content creation feels messy behind the scenes, it'll look hesitant on the outside. If you're scrambling for assets, your visuals will feel inconsistent, and that inconsistency shows.
It's not a lack of creativity or discipline. It's just outdated infrastructure.
Once the friction is gone and you're not dragging the same tasks from one week's to-do list to the next... NOW we get to the good part!
There's a reason fun is one of my biggest business values. Fun is what makes this whole thing sustainable. When you actually enjoy how you show up, you'll want to do more of it, which means consistency stops being something you force and becomes something you want.
Just like that first ray of sunshine after a month of grey winter: that's the energy we're bringing back!
Your brand needs more of YOU in it.
Not just in a "put your face on camera" way (though honestly, that's non-negotiable at this point for any online service provider). What I mean is deeper than that. Personal brands are meant to operate from your personality in ways corporate brands can't, or won't.
Your tone. Your opinions. Your humour. Your stories. Your way of telling stories.
If you've been showing that side of yourself less and less lately, or defaulting to what's quick and easy even though it doesn't really light you up... consider this your invitation to experiment. You could:
Think of it as an opportunity to reconnect with your personality, to find the energy that's been there all along... just hiding behind the clouds.
Because just like I came alive the second the sun came out, sometimes your brand just needs a little sunshine and photosynthesis to grow.
And that's a whole lot easier to do when you have some clarity and you stop fighting the season you're in.
